Rangers Have McGregor Successor In Mind As They Ponder Free Transfer Swoop For 29 Year Old

Rangers are considering whether to make a move for St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the shot-stopper could well leave McDiarmid Park on a free transfer next year.

If Allan McGregor does decide to retire, the Gers don’t want to be left short of options in goal, and they have identified Clark as one possible candidate to be the new number one.

The Scottish keeper does have other potential suitors, though, with English Championship and League One teams said to be keeping a close eye on his contract situation.

Clark played a key role in helping St Johnstone secure a domestic cup double last campaign and he has continued his excellent form into this season. It has led to a call-up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Denmark this week.
