Rangers Have ‘Contacted’ Club About 12 Goal Spanish Wide Man Ahead Of Possible Summer Swoop

Rangers have “contacted” English League Two side Morecambe about signing winger Carlos Mendes Gomes, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Senegalese born Spaniard has been in England for the last five years, making his way through non-league before being snapped up by Morecambe on a free transfer in 2018.

Gomes has been in excellent form this season, having scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 45 appearances for the Shrimps.

However, according to Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old’s contract does expire this summer so it is surprising that the Gers felt the need to contact Morecambe, if he is available on a free transfer.

Whether Gomes has the ability to step up to the Scottish Premiership, it isn’t known. He was part of a side that lost 7-0 to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup back in September, while he also featured as Morecambe were thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea in the FA Cup at the start of this year.
