Rangers midfielder Steven Davis says he isn’t planning on quitting football at the end of the season.

The Northern Ireland international’s contract expires in June and, with less than four months remaining on his current deal, the 36-year-old has yet to put pen to paper on an extension.

When asked whether he was looking to end his playing career in the summer, Davis replied that he definitely sees himself continuing for a while longer:

“I don’t see myself finishing up at the end of the season. My approach has been the same as the clubs, trying to concentrate on the football first and foremost, to get ourselves into a position first.”

“I’ve got a very open relationship with the gaffer and Ross (Wilson) at the club. We’re always talking about different scenarios so I’m not under any pressure or worried about the situation moving forward.”

One of the motivations for staying with the Light Blues is the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season. Davis has actually played in the group stages for the club on two occasions, during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, and he is keen to see the Gers back in Europe’s top competition for the first time in ten years.

With that being the case then it’s surely only a matter of time before Davis gets a new contract.
