Rangers Handed Major Setback In Attempts To Snap Up Chelsea Star

Rangers will not be re-signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour on loan this summer, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The Blues have decided that the 20-year-old’s development would be best served if he remains in the Premier League next season.

Six English EPL clubs have already contacted Chelsea about Gilmour with West Ham, Brentford and Norwich thought to be among the teams interested

It had been reported that the Canaries were the favourites to land the Scotland international, with manager Daniel Farke having previously worked alongside Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund. However, it is not believed a decision has been made on Gilmour’s future yet.

It will be interesting to see whether the London club’s stance changes if Rangers qualify for the Champions League group stages. Playing in Europe’s premier competition would certainly be an attractive prospect for Gilmour, although the fear is, his loan move may have already been sorted out by the time that the Light Blues play their qualifiers next month.
