Rangers Handed Big Fitness Boost Ahead Of Clash Against Kilmarnock

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that midfielder Steven Davis should be available for selection when the Bears face Kilmarnock on Boxing Day.

The 34-year-old has missed the last four games in all competitions after picking up a foot injury in the 2-2 draw against Aberdeen earlier this month. However, at his pre-match press-conference, Gerrard said the Northern Irishman is back on the training pitch:

“He’s training with the team again for the first time. Assuming he comes through the next couple of days, he will be available for selection. We look forward to welcoming him back.”

“Steven’s been terrific for us this season. The injury was a blow for him and us because we all know the form he was in prior to it. “If he can get that form back as quickly as possible, it will be very welcome.”

Davis will have a battle on his hands to get his place back in the starting eleven, with Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo having performed well when moved centrally to play alongside the likes of Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack.

Even so, the veteran midfielder’s experience could prove vital over the second half of the season. With so many games to play as well, Gerrard believes there will be a lot of rotation in the middle of the pitch and Davis will certainly still play a key role between now and May.
