Rangers Eyeing Deal For £1m Rated Argentinian Defender

Rangers are keeping tabs on Lanus right-back Leonel Di Placido, according to the Scottish Sun. The 25-year-old could be available for just £1m in the January transfer window.

The Gers are apparently looking at possible targets if captain James Tavernier leaves. The fullback has been linked with moves to Newcastle and Aston Villa but it must be said there has been no concrete interest in the Englishman.

Di Placido would, though, be an interesting signing. He has an Italian passport so no visa would be required, and he has been named in squads for Argentina over the past year.

The defender has yet to get his first cap but it does show he is highly regarded in his country. He has spent the last two years with Lanus, playing 34 games, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Any move for Di Placido is unlikely to happen, though, unless it becomes clear that Tavernier is leaving Rangers.
