Rangers Expected To Hold Talks With Ex-England International In The ‘Coming Weeks’

Rangers will hold talks with former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing in the “coming weeks,” according to the Teesside Gazette.

The Middlesbrough based newspaper reports the 34-year-old is expected to have discussions with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers first.

However, Downing has not ruled out the possibility of moving to Rangers or returning to Boro.

It is believed the ex-England international was contacted by the Gers earlier this year, although no formal discussions about a move were held.

That may change now the season has come to a close with Downing likely to discuss his future with a number of different teams.

The winger played alongside manager Steven Gerrard for both Liverpool and England. Last season for Boro, he made 38 appearances in the Championship, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

It must be said, though, that due to a contract dispute, he was relegated to the substitute’s bench for most of the second half of the campaign.
