Rangers’ Europa League Tie Remains In Limbo Following UEFA Announcement

The second leg of Rangers’ Europa League last 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen has been postponed for an indefinite period, UEFA have confirmed.

The European body has said they will not restart their competitions once again until the Coronavirus outbreak is in a “descendant phase.”

Currently, with no indication that the virus’s spread will slow down, it doesn’t look like the Europa League will be restarted any time soon.

The hope is that competitions could be restarted in mid-April with the final of both European trophies scheduled to be scheduled beforee June 30th.

UEFA are said to be particularly keen to have their competitions completed by then as player contracts will be expiring on that date.

However, this is only a preliminary plan, and with numerous countries, including Italy and Spain, in lockdown, it would not be possible to play matches, even behind closed doors. It means any decisions will be dependent on conditions on the ground.
