Rangers Defender Reveals He “Would Love” To Make Switch To Premier League “If The Opportunity Came Up”

Rangers centre-back Nikola Katic says he harbours ambitions of playing in England or Spain if he manages to make a name for himself at Ibrox.

The Croatian has had an alarming drop in form in recent months, culminating in him being dropped by manager Steven Gerrard, but the defender says he is looking to grab the attention of scouts with his performances in Scotland:

“English Premier League clubs follow Rangers and Celtic, so I would like the opportunity to prove I have the quality to play there. We all know England and Spain are a step above all other leagues and obviously, if the opportunity came up to play there I would love that.”

“When I was a kid, it was always my favourite, but let’s concentrate first on this [pandemic] calming down.”

Katic won’t be impressing many observers if he continues with his poor form when the football season resumes.

George Edmundson has moved above the 23-year-old in the pecking order in recent weeks, while the return of Filip Helander from a foot injury will also add more competition for places.

There is no doubt about Katic’s potential but his lack of consistency and tendency to make individual errors could put pay to any hope he has of moving to the Premier League. Whether he’ll rediscover his best performances when we get back playing football, it remains to be seen.
