Rangers Dealt Fresh Injury Setback As It’s Revealed That Summer Signing Could Be Sidelined For MONTHS

Rangers attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence has suffered a setback and is not expected to return to action until after the World Cup, according to manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Wales international was thought to be close to making a comeback from a knee problem he sustained against Ross County in August but van Bronckhorst says the player has picked up another injury:

“Tom Lawrence’s recovery went on schedule but he sustained a new injury this week. We have to wait to see how long he’ll be out but it will be longer term. Probably more months than weeks. I don’t think we’ll have him back before the World Cup.”

Lawrence joined the Gers on a free transfer from Derby County in the summer and he had started the season very brightly, so his extended absence will come as a bitter blow.

Although the 28-year-old wouldn’t have been expected to face Liverpool on Tuesday night, he could have been in contention to play St Mirren at the weekend, as well as the return fixture against the Reds at Ibrox.

However, it appears that Lawrence could now miss at least TWELVE games over the next five to six weeks.
