Rangers Dealt Blow In Pursuit Of 26 Goal Striker As Chairman Reveals Likely Destination

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has predicted that Rangers target Ivan Toney will likely be sold to a team in the English Premier League or Championship this summer.

The Posh’s Director of Football Barry Fry confirmed that both the Gers and Celtic were interested in the forward, who has scored 26 goals this season, but MacAnthony thinks he is destined to remain in England:

“We had multiple clubs try and buy him in January, we promised Ivan if we weren’t in the Championship next season we would sell him.”

“We don’t sell our players cheap, the pandemic won’t affect that. I can envisage he will probably go to the top two or three Championship clubs if not the bottom ten Premier League clubs.”

Peterborough value Toney at £15m so Rangers were always unlikely to sign the striker unless his asking price was significantly reduced.

Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard is, however, expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer, with the Scottish club having just two out-and-out forwards in the squad currently.

A loan deal for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, a move for Charlton’s Lyle Taylor or a potential bid for Livingston’s Lyndon Dykes are probably far more realistic transfers than Toney, with all three available for a much lower price.
