Rangers may have to see off Manchester United in their attempts to sign Crystal Palace Jack Butland on a free transfer, according to The Scottish Sun.

The tabloid claims that the Red Devils are willing to double the wages that the Gers are prepared to offer the Englishman, who has been capped nine times by his country at senior level.

Butland has been on loan at Old Trafford for the second half of this season, but he has yet to play for the first team, and it was assumed that United wouldn’t pursue his signature on a permanent basis.

However, in what could be a “huge blow” for the Gers, the Scottish Sun claim that manager Erik ten Hag wants the 30-year-old as his third-choice keeper.

What happens next with Butland?

The shot-stopper is expected to leave Palace when his contract expires at the end of June, and it looks like he has a choice to make.

He can either become a regular starter for Rangers on the same salary he was on with the Eagles, or he can stay in Manchester, sit on the bench and earn more money.
