Rangers have now pocketed an extra £1m from the sale of Billy Gilmour to Chelsea, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The Gers reluctantly let the promising young midfielder leave for Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017, and they initially received £500,000 in compensation.

However, as part of the deal that took Gilmour south of the border, there were a number of add-ons, which were dependent on the player making it into the first team.

Over the past eighteen months, those milestones have been achieved so the Gers have now banked a substantial windfall from the Scotland international’s switch to Chelsea.

The financial benefits from the transfer won’t stop there either, as the Light Blues also included a sell-on clause, which should ensure that the Scottish champions receive a sizeable figure if Gilmour is ever sold.

That doesn’t appear likely at the moment, though, as the 20-year-old has just joined Norwich City on a season-long loan deal.
