Rangers Backed To Sign 9 Cap England International On A Free After Manchester United Spell Ends

Rangers should consider making Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland their next number one, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Englishman, who has been capped nine times by his country, will be available on a free transfer at the end of this season, and Jones feels he would be a good player for Michael Beale to have in his squad:

“I think Jack Butland is a fantastic person to have around the dressing room. He’s got big experience, too. I think he’d be a really good fit, particularly for Rangers next season, if they do go down that path.”

Butland is currently on loan at United from Crystal Palace. However, he is behind David De Gea and Tom Heaton in the pecking order and he has only made the bench twice since moving to Old Trafford in January.

His contract at his parent club Palace expires in June so he will almost certainly become a free agent in the coming months.

Whether Butland would be a good enough replacement for Allan McGregor, though, it is up for debate. While he is a former England international, the 30-year-old’s form in recent years has been poor. The fact that he doesn’t even make the substitutes’ bench for United does raise serious questions about his ability.
