Rangers And Celtic Set To Miss Out On 30 Cap Greek International After Contract Twist

Panathinaikos captain Dimitrios Kourbelis is expected to sign a new contract with the Greek club, according to reports in his homeland.

Both Rangers and Celtic have been tipped as potential suitors for the 29-year-old, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

However, Kourbelis has been in negotiations over extending his contract with Panathinaikos and discussions are believed to have now reached an advanced stage.

There is still a small chance that the Gers or their Old Firm rivals could step in at the last minute and put a spanner in the works, but all the signs point towards the player staying at his current club, where he has played for the last six years.

Kourbelis is a holding midfielder by trade, but he can also play as a centre-half. He has been capped 30 times by his country, having started Greece’s last game against Hungary back in November.
