“Pretty Much Done…” Beale Reveals When Rangers’ Next Summer Signing Will Be Announced Following Dowell Unveiling

Rangers manager Michael Beale says fans won’t have to wait long before the club’s next summer signing is announced.

Just prior to the club confirming that Norwich City’s Kieran Dowell will move to Ibrox on a free transfer, Beale said that a new goalkeeper could be confirmed at the start of next month:

“You guys [the media] are on a wild goose chase and you are getting further away. We have had a lot of goalkeepers who want to come and play – good goalkeepers, international goalkeepers. There are certain things I’m looking for.., in terms of the person coming in to be a leader, to come in and push with the other goalies to make our whole goalkeeping department stronger.”

“I think it was difficult for Jon earlier in the season with Allan here because every goal you concede there is something in the background if you like. So it is important to have a clean break. We will announce a goalkeeper in the next 10 days or so I believe so it is pretty much done.”

From Beale’s remarks, it does appear that the identity of the new recruit hasn’t been mentioned in the press so far.

Crystal Palace’s Jack Butland has been widely tipped to join, but there have been suggestions recently that he could be snapped up by Manchester United on a permanent basis instead.

Fortuna Sittard’s Ivor Pandur is another who has been mentioned, while there was some speculation surrounding Bayer Leverkusen’s Andrey Lunev, who has confirmed that he will leave the Bundesliga giants on a free this summer.

What other keepers could Rangers sign?

There are a couple of free agents that the Light Blues could pursue.  FC Cologne’s Timo Horn would be an interesting option. The former Germany Under 21 international does have a decent reputation.

If Beale is looking to the Premier League for another veteran keeper, Everton’s Asmir Begovic may also be considered.
