Rangers are weighing up whether to sign Aberdeen forward Scott Wright before the January transfer window closes, according to reports in the UK.
The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Dons boss Derek McInnes has already confirmed that the player intends to leave Pittodrie. With that being the case, the Light Blues are considering whether to secure him on a free transfer at the end of the season or to make a low bid to snap him up this month.
Supporters on Twitter are split on whether Wright has the ability to play for Rangers, with some believing he wouldn’t be much more than a squad player based on his performances for Aberdeen:
Pointless move, he won’t get a game. I’m sure he may be a decent player however look at Stewart & Hastie decent players yet they can’t even get a look in. As a Rangers fan I think we should only go for folk who have the potential of getting in the first 11

He is a good prospect along with Hedges, the only question is are they good enough to slot in as replacements I.e. the way Bassey can do for Borna. If they are able to do that then great, but if they aren’t at that stage then waste of money.

Surprised at that this. Rangers recruitment was driven towards European progress. Wright won’t play in the current squad. Another Barker, Jones but it does weaken a ‘rival’

Will be 24 by the start of next season, only played 75 games for Aberdeen, had his injuries to deal with including a cruciate injury last season.

It is a bit of a surprise that manager Steven Gerrard is interested in Wright. The attacking midfielder does have ability and will create chances, but he spent most of last season sidelined with a serious knee injury and he hasn’t yet recaptured his best form. Saying that, though, the fact he will be available so cheaply makes it less of a risk.
