Plans Are Revealed To Implement Major Change For Scottish Football At The End Of This Month

VAR will be introduced in the Scottish Premiership before the World Cup, according to multiple reports.

It is believed the first games that will have video technology for officiating will take place on the weekend of October 21st and 22nd.

Rangers’ match versus Livingston is a 3pm Saturday kickoff, and the fixture will be among the first six matches to have a VAR official overseeing proceedings.

UEFA competitions and the majority of top European leagues have had VAR in operation for a number of years but the cost of implementing the system has held back Scotland from introducing it until now.

Officiating in the Premiership has often come under the spotlight and VAR will hopefully prevent big mistakes from being made. It can be used for penalties, red cards, mistaken identity and offsides.

Of course, as we have seen in other countries, VAR is not foolproof, as it relies on the officials to use the technology properly to come to the right decision. We shall see how successful the role out is in the coming weeks.
