“None Of Them…” Ferguson Criticises Rangers Trio Who He Claims Don’t Deserve To Be Starting Matches

Ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Malik Tillman did not do themselves any favours with their performances against Dundee on Tuesday evening.

The trio were all handed starts by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the Premier Sports Cup tie but Ferguson claims “none of them” warrant being given opportunities on a regular basis based on their efforts midweek:

“Malik Tillman, Fashion Sakala or Alfredo Morelos – the three players who probably had more to prove than anyone else given that none of them have been trusted with a regular starting place. I like them all. They have different attributes to bring to the team. But none of them is showing any level of consistency or showing they deserve to stay in the team.”

“I’ll be surprised if they’re not all back on the bench this weekend for the visit of Livingston because right now Gio is a manager searching for answers. And all they left him with the other night was more questions.”

You only have to look at the stats this season to see that van Bronckhorst is right to expect more from the three players. Morelos, in particular, has looked a pale shadow of his former self, having scored just twice in 12 appearances.

Sakala, meanwhile, has looked good in flashes, with his performance versus St Mirren a stand out, but his goal and assist in that match are his only contributions so far this campaign.

Tillman is certainly a player with a lot of potential but three goals and two assists in 16 appearances is hardly a great return, especially as supporters were expecting much more from him following his arrival from Bayern Munich.
