Players With The Most Yellow Cards In The 2022/23 Scottish Premiership Season

Rory McKenzie battles former Celtic player Josip Juranovic.

The Scottish Premiership 2022/23 season has now ended, with Celtic sitting atop the pile once again. But who was on top of the yellow card charts?

We’ll be looking at Scottish Premiership players from clubs such as Motherwell, Livingston and Kilmarnock for the purposes of this list.

Both Celtic and Rangers have been well-behaved this season – none of their players have made it into the top four, or even the top ten.

We have seen some particularly bad-tempered players over the course of Scottish Premiership history – warriors such as Scott Brown, Alan Hutton and Alfredo Morelos all spring to mind. Who’s been in trouble this season?

Sean Goss

Up first on the list is Motherwell’s Sean Goss. Spoiler alert – he will not be the only Motherwell player who will be making an appearance on this list.

In the 2022/23 Scottish Premiership season, Goss accumulated a total of eight yellow cards. Despite this, he never pushed the boundaries too far, as he avoided a single red card.

Goss has played for clubs such as QPR, Shrewsbury Town and he even had a stint in Manchester United’s academy as a youngster. With his contract set to expire in the summer, where will his next destination be?

Jason Holt

Experienced midfield player Jason Holt is next on the list – in 2022/23, he picked up a grand total of nine yellow cards and one red card.

A hard-working, determined midfielder, his sheer grit and determination often leads to him committing fouls – which, in turn, often results in him being booked.

He has had a lengthy career in football – Holt has played for clubs such as Sheffield United, Rangers and Fleetwood Town since making his debut.

Rory McKenzie

In second place is Rory McKenzie – Kilmarnock’s number seven picked up eleven yellow cards in 36 Scottish Premiership appearances last season.

An experienced winger, McKenzie isn’t known for his goal contributions – in 2022/23, he failed to pick up an assist or score a single goal.

He does, however, provide an energetic presence on the wing. He frequently harrasses his opponents while they are in possession – but his often-clumsy tackling can lead to him getting booked.

Callum Slattery

Topping the list is the second Motherwell player on this list – Callum Slattery. In the 2022/23 Scottish Premiership season, Slattery picked up a total of 12 yellow cards.

Moreover, he has made the fewest number of appearances than any other player in this lineup – he accumulated his bookings tally in 29 games.

He came up through the Southampton academy as a youngster – he has played for clubs such as De Graafschap, Gillingham and now Motherwell over the course of his career.
