Mikel Arteta Delivers Verdict On Gerrard And Van Bronckhorst After He Makes Frank Rangers Admission

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed he is a Rangers supporter after he was asked about the managerial changes at the Old Firm club.

The Spaniard played at Ibrox for two years between 2002 and 2004 before moving to Real Sociedad. He praised Steven Gerrard for the work he did in getting the Light Blues back to the summit of Scottish football, and he wished his successor, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, good luck in the job:

“As a Rangers fan, I must say thank you so much to Stevie [Gerrard] and his coaching staff for what they did for the club. They turned the club around in such a difficult moment. To manage to win the league in the way they did it was obviously a big boost. Football is like that, where people want to move and have other expectations. Now I just wish the best of luck to Giovanni and the club and let’s see what happens.”

Arteta’s formative years as a player were spent at the Gers and it’s clear that the club left a lasting impression on him. He seems to have been following developments at his former team very closely in recent years.

Not all Rangers fans will share Arteta’s sentiments towards Gerrard, considering the way he left for Aston Villa, but everyone is now focused on the future, looking forward to a new era under the management of van Bronckhorst.
