McInnes Claims 20 Year Old Could Soon Be Worth 25M If Rangers Make Right Decision On His Future

Ex-Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes believes Rangers should not be considering selling Nathan Patterson in the near future.

Everton tried to snap up the 20-year-old in the summer and they are expected to return in the January transfer window, but McInnes thinks the Gers should look to develop the right-back at Ibrox and offload him in a few years when they can get a similar fee to the £25m Celtic received for Kieran Tierney:

“Rangers knocked back a bid from Everton earlier this season and are in control of that situation. From a business point of view, it makes sense to develop him. If they see him as a future mainstay you could potentially be talking the sort of money Celtic got for Tierney from Arsenal.”

Patterson has massive potential so McInnes is right to say that keeping him, at least in the short term, would be the right decision.

However, most Light Blues fans would go even further to say that Patterson should not be let go no matter the circumstances, as he clearly has the potential to be the club’s first-choice right-back for a decade or longer.

Rangers’ financial situation may, though, play a role in whether the board opt to keep Patterson. It is believed the Scottish champions need to raise £7.5m by the end of the season.
