McCoist Names The Three Players That Rangers Have Become “Too Reliant” On

Rangers legend Ally McCoist thinks Steven Gerrard’s side are overly reliant on three players, and that the squad lacks depth in comparison to their Old Firm rivals:

“Rangers are too reliant on Tavernier, Kent and Morelos. Celtic have more of a goal threat whether it is from Griffiths, Edouard or the boys round about them.”

“I watched Rangers huff and puff against Aberdeen. I looked at Rangers bench and was asking if anyone could come on change the game? And the answer was I don’t really think so.”

Captain James Tavernier has missed three league games due to injury before returning to the bench against Aberdeen at the weekend, while Alfredo Morelos has also had to sit out games due to suspension and injury.

Only Ryan Kent has been playing regularly out of those named by McCoist and while the 23-year-old did score in the 2-1 defeat to Hearts, he hasn’t been at his best in recent matches.

Steven Gerrard will be hoping that others will step up to the plate in the coming weeks in order to get their title challenge back on track. They are now seven points behind Celtic, but they do have a game in hand. They face Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday evening with their Glasgow rivals playing away against Motherwell.
