Rangers transfer target Haji Wright was booed by his own supporters after being substituted for Antalyaspor at the weekend.

There has been speculation that the American international has asked to leave the Turkish Super Lig club, and that hasn’t gone down well with fans. Asked about the jeers after the 0-0 against Istanbul Basaksehir, Wright’s manager Nuri Sahin said:

“I am not a person who has understood whistling all my life. I have always stood against it both in my football career and in my coaching period. I was surprised, I was surprised because it is clear that Haji has given us so far, it is clear what he will give.”

It is believed that Antalyaspor are demanding at least £8.5m for Wright, having already rejected proposals for below that figure in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old has been in great form this season, having scored 16 goals in 27 appearances, but after a two-year spell in Turkey, it appears he is keen on a new challenge.

Is Wright a realistic transfer target for Rangers?

Whether Rangers can afford Wright, it is up for debate. There is no disputing the fact that the Light Blues need a new number nine, with Alfredo Morelos set to leave Ibrox when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Spending £8.5m would, though, be an eyewatering amount, especially if the Scottish club also trigger their option to sign Wright’s fellow countryman, Malik Tillman, on a permanent basis for £5m. Splashing out £13.5m on the pair would likely blow the whole summer transfer budget.
