Lorenzo Amoruso Warns Rangers That They Have A “Big Problem” To Fix Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

Rangers legend Lorenzo Amoruso claims the lack of collective organisation is causing the Light Blues a “big problem” defensively.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst‘s side lost 4-0 to Celtic, 4-0 to Ajax and 3-0 to Napoli before arresting that run of poor results with a narrow win against Dundee United prior to the international break. Amoruso feels that if they come up against more “high level” opponents, they could be caught out at the back once again:

“Defences are the foundations of football teams. I played in a Rangers defence that was very strong, we knew and trusted each other so were able to provide the defensive stability that helped the team succeed. Unfortunately, the current side looks much less solid at the back. I do not think it is about the quality of the players, either, rather how they go about their job.”

“My impression is that they are not helping each other out enough. Everyone seems to be thinking about their own little bit of the garden. This is a big problem….you will meet top performers in high-level football, and when you do, you have to be able to stop them hurting you. To do that takes not only teamwork, but concentration and focus from everyone. Not just for a few minutes, either, but from the first whistle to the last.”

The Gers face Liverpool a week on Tuesday, just a few days after their next fixture against Hearts in the league. The fact that it is at Anfield won’t help matters either, and fans will be fearing another heavy defeat.

Unless Amoruso’s warnings about the defence are heeded, it’s difficult to see Rangers coming away with any points from the Champions League clash. If that proves to be the case then any hope of qualification from their group would effectively be extinguished.
