Laudrup Pinpoints The Two Decisions That “Backfired” On Beale In Cup Defeat

Rangers legend Brian Laudrup believes the decision to omit Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin from the starting eleven for the League Cup final came back to haunt manager Michael Beale.

While Laudrup says he understands Beale’s reasoning for leaving the pair on the bench against Celtic, he still feels it was a mistake:

“I was a little bit surprised when I saw the starting line-up, but I understood the logic as explained by Beale. He was going with experience. He wanted players who knew the fixture and had been at the club for a certain period of time. That’s fair enough. But it backfired in this case.”

Many supporters agreed with Laudrup’s assessment of the situation in the aftermath of the match at the weekend, with the absence of Raskin being particularly contentious.

The Belgian Under 21 international had performed well in the games leading up to the clash at Hampden Park, and he did make a decent impact when Beale decided to put him on in the second half on Sunday.

By then, though, it was too late. Ultimately, the Gers couldn’t make up for having made such a slow start to the match. Hopefully, it will prove to be a learning experience for Beale at least.
