Kris Boyd Rates Rangers’ Chances Of Beating Slavia Prague Following Europa League Draw

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd believes that the Light Blues do have a decent chance of progressing against Slavia Prague in the Europa League round of 16.

The draw for the competition saw the Gers miss out on high profile opponents like Manchester United, Arsenal and AC Milan, but the Czech side did beat Leicester City in the last round. Even so, Boyd thinks Steven Gerrard’s side will be up for the challenge, as long as they keep things tight at the back in the first leg:

“It’s one of the ones that Steven Gerrard would have looked at and said if we can get them it gives us an opportunity to get to the last eight. I’m not taking anything for granted but it gives us a chance. [The first leg] is away from home, if you can nick an away goal you’ve got a chance, but we can’t concede the goals that we did last time.”

Slavia are certainly a team that Rangers should be wary of but, as Boyd points out, they are not one of the big teams and it gives the Scottish club a good chance to qualify for the quarter-finals.

They won’t be able to get away with letting in five goals over two legs like they did against Antwerp so, if they can tighten up defensively, they have at least a 50/50 chance of progressing.
