Kenny Miller Claims Rangers Ace (Who Is Just As Good As Jota) Should Not Be Allowed To “Walk Out The Door”

Ex-Rangers striker Kenny Miller believes his former club should do all they can to keep Ryan Kent at Ibrox beyond the end of the season.

The £7m signing from Liverpool could leave on a free transfer in June, with his current contract set to expire, but Miller says it would be a mistake to let such a talented player go, who he feels has just as much natural ability as Celtic winger Jota:

“He’s certainly on a par with Jota, in terms of ability. But those players look hungrier to score goals. It’s a non-negotiable that they attack the box. Rangers and Kent aren’t doing that right now. But that doesn’t mean you let a £7m signing walk out the door.”

“When he’s on his game, Kent can be frightening. He’s direct, has pace, can chop on to either foot and fool his markers. He’s electrifying when he’s in full flow. You know it’s there. It’s up to him now to produce – and getting his future sorted will help him do it.”

The biggest issue with Kent is his inconsistency. He can have one outstanding match and then go missing for a number of weeks. The talent is there but he doesn’t apply himself as well as he should.

Whether some of that is down to his contract situation, it isn’t known. With his future up in the air, he may not be 100% focused on his performances. As a professional footballer, though, you should be able to put those thoughts out of your mind. He needs to show what he is capable of week in, week out to really merit the contract Miller feels he should be offered.
