Journalist Reveals Rangers Failed To Get Summer Deal For 4M Rated Marksman “Over The Line”

Rangers failed in an attempt to snap up Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet in the summer, according to journalist Hugh MacDonald.

Both the Light Blues and Old Firm rivals Celtic were reportedly interested in the Scottish international. However, MacDonald claims the Gers were the team who were pressing to sign the 24-year-old, with boss Steven Gerrard firmly behind the move, but a transfer did not materialise:

“I know he [Gerrard]was keen on Nisbet, and for whatever reason, he couldn’t that over the line.”

With McDonald not going into detail as to why Nisbet didn’t end up at Ibrox before the transfer window shut, it is difficult to guess what really went on.

The transfer fee could have been an issue. Reports in the Scottish media had suggested that Hibs were holding out for around £4m, which may have proven too steep for Rangers.

It must be pointed out that Fashion Sakala was also brought in by the Scottish champions on a free transfer and it may have been decided that Nisbet was not worth the outlay, considering the options already available to Gerrard.
