Journalist Rates Rangers’ Chances Of Sealing 5M Swoop For Dutch Playmaker

Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman is likely to stay in the Eredivisie this summer, according to Dutch football journalist James Rowe

The 22-year-old has been linked with Rangers, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Atalanta in the Dutch press, with it is being reported that the playmaker could be sold for around £5m. However, speaking to Rangers News, Rowe said Veerman is expected to remain in Holland so he can continue his development:

“It’s interesting that at present he isn’t near the Dutch set-up and I believe it’s more likely he’ll move within the Netherlands to the likes of AZ Alkmaar.”

£5m always seemed like a steep fee for a player who has only really become a consistent performer in the Dutch top-flight over the past couple of seasons.

Veerman’s statistics from last campaign, nine goals and provided 11 assists in 35 appearances, do make for impressive reading, though, so he is undoubtedly a player that Gers scouts would have been keeping an eye on.

Adding more goals and creativity in the middle of the park is definitely something manager Steven Gerrard will be looking at, so if Veerman doesn’t arrive at Ibrox, there will surely be other names on the list.
