Journalist Confirms Rangers Star Is “Being Followed” By Napoli But Questions Likelihood Of Summer Bid

Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is not a major priority for Napoli, according to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato.

The Croatian international’s agent Ives Cakarun revealed earlier this month that the Italian side were strongly interested in the 27-year-old during the January transfer window before he signed a new contract at Ibrox, but it doesn’t appear that the Serie A club have retained their interest. Venerato was quoted (via Sport Witness) as saying:

“Barisic from Rangers is being followed, but he’s not top of the list. Not even second. There are other priorities in the role. If the priorities disappeared, they could think about him, but there are other players Napoli feel are better.”

Where that leaves Barisic’s future, it is anyone’s guess. Roma are said to be keeping tabs on the defender, although their interest doesn’t appear to be concrete at this stage either.

Tottenham have also been mentioned as a possible destination, but the reliability of those rumours are questionable, to say the least. So, while it seems the Croatian defender’s agent is touting his client’s name across Europe in order to find a buyer, there doesn’t appear to be a single club who is actively pursuing him at this moment in time.
