Journalist Confirms Rangers Star Has Had Phone Call With Prospective New Manager Ahead Of 25M Transfer

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey has “spoken extensively” with Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder ahead of a potential switch to the Dutch club, according to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij.

The Nigerian international is believed to be a key target for Schreuder, who is looking to replace Lisandro Martinez, with the Argentine set to complete his £46.5m move to Manchester United:

Verweij reports that Rangers are expected to hold out for at least €25m (£21.2m) to sell Bassey this summer, and it’s likely that Ajax will be joined by Premier League outfit Brighton in making a formal bid for the fullback.

The Seagulls anticipate losing Marc Cucurella to Manchester City, with the Spaniard set to fetch northwards of £50m, and Graham Potter’s side have reportedly identified Bassey as his replacement.

It means both Ajax and Brighton shouldn’t have any issues when it comes to meeting the Gers’ asking price. The Scottish club are now waiting for one of the two teams to make the first official approach.
