“It Would Be Great For Rangers…” Manchester United Star Backed To Make Ibrox Move

Ex-England international Paul Robinson believes Rangers should consider making a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The former Burnley number one is currently third choice at the Red Devils, but Robinson feels the 36-year-old would be an excellent addition for the Gers:

“Tom is far better than being number three goalkeeper, no matter what club he is at. He is not at that stage of his career yet. He has so much to give. A move to a club like Rangers would be a very good move for him. It would be great for Rangers as well because he is a top-class goalkeeper. Tom is hungry. He would be a fantastic acquisition for any club.”

There is no doubt that the Light Blues will be in the market for a new number one in the near future. Jon McLaughlin was given the gloves at the start of the campaign by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst but failed to take his chance.

Allan McGregor has come back into the side and performed pretty well but he will turn 41 at the end of January, and there are question marks about whether he will stay in football beyond the end of the season.

Heaton does have three senior caps for England, and Robinson is correct to point out that he would probably jump at the chance of moving to Ibrox, but Rangers may well be looking at younger alternatives as they look for a long-term successor for McGregor.
