“I Have Heard That…” Manager Makes Shock Transfer Claim As Rangers Are Linked With 23 Year Old Defender

Rangers may well be considering a bid for Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous, according to Clyde manager Jim Duffy.

The 23-year-old, who rose to infamy following a leg-breaking tackle on Joe Aribo, has been linked with Old Firm rivals Celtic but Duffy believes a move to Ibrox is likelier:

“He [Porteous] could be going across the road to their [Celtic’s] greatest rivals. So, I have heard that, whether there’s that much in it but that’s something that’s in the air.”

It remains to be seen whether Duffy’s information is accurate. While he may not be an agent or journalist, he is involved in the game, so he may have heard a few things through the grapevine.

Even so, the likelihood of the Gers being interested in Porteous is pretty low. Not only was he unpopular following his awful challenge on Aribo, he doesn’t fit the profile that manager Michael Beale would be looking for in a centre-back.

The Light Blues boss is keen to play out from the back and Porteous’s reputation as a no-nonsense defender means he wouldn’t be the first player considered if Rangers are looking to reinforce their options at the back.
