Hutton Says Liverpool Starlet Would Be A Statement Signing In Rangers’ Battle To Match Celtic

Ex-Rangers defender Alan Hutton says he would be delighted if his former club managed to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on loan this summer.

The Light Blues reportedly tried to snap up the 19-year-old in January and, asked about the prospect of signing the player ahead of the start of next season, Hutton feels he would improve the squad:

“For Rangers moving forward, these are the calibre of player – even though he’s so young you can tell that he’s a quality player – these are the players Rangers need to push on I think and match Celtic.”

Whether the Gers will be successful in their efforts to secure Jones when the transfer window reopens, we shall have to wait and see.

The teenager may have only played two Premier League games this season, but he has had a prominent role in cup competitions under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Steven Gerrard will need to persuade the Liverpool boss that Jones’s development would be better served playing in the intensity of Scottish football, rather than on loan in the English Championship or with another Premier League team.

He will, no doubt, use the example of Ryan Kent as someone who has thrived when moving north of the border, but it remains to be seen if Klopp will be convinced.
