Gerrard Tells Rangers Fans To Expect News On Striker’s Future ‘In A Day Or Two’

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that there will be an announcement on Jermain Defoe’s future in the next couple of days.

The 37-year-old is on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season, but with his contract expiring with the Cherries in June, he has been in talks about moving on a permanent basis to Ibrox. Gerrard says there will be some good news on that front imminently:

“There will be some news in a day or two on Jermain. He has been massive for us. He is so important to the team, the squad, to the club because of the way he behaves on and off the pitch.”

Defoe continues to perform at the highest level despite having entered the twilight of his career. The former Tottenham and Portsmouth striker has scored an impressive 16 goals in 28 games for the Bears this season.

It is a testament to the former England international’s fitness and longevity that he is still able to make such a major contribution to the team’s efforts. Supporters will no doubt welcome the news that the forward will be extending his stay at the Scottish club.
