Gerrard Speaks Out On Reports That Rangers Are Following 5M Rated Playmaker

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has not shut down reports linking the club with a move for Heerenveen anchor-man Joey Veerman.

There have been claims in both the Dutch and the Scottish media in recent days suggesting that the Gers are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old but Gerrard would only say that the Scottish club are scouting potential targets:

“If there’s anything to say in terms of ins and outs, I will be the first to tell you. We are tracking certain individuals to try and make the group stronger when the window opens. I don’t think it’s the right time to mention individual names or targets that we’re looking at.”

Veerman is believed to be valued in the region of £5m by Heerenveen, and he has had a very good season by all accounts, having scored nine goals and provided 10 assists in 32 appearances.

The former Netherlands Under 19 international can play in a number of different positions, including as a no.10 and on the wing, but most of his game time this campaign has been as a deep-lying playmaker in the middle of the pitch.

Rangers won’t be the only team after Veerman, though, with the likes of Ligue One side Stade de Reims and Serie A heavyweights Atalanta also believed to be interested.
