Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that he wants to secure Steven Davis on a permanent deal this summer.

The 34-year-old was brought in on loan from Southampton during the January transfer window, and the Gers boss says he is hoping to keep the midfielder:

“I think he will be here next season. At this moment, we cannot confirm he will be here, but I want a fit and hungry Steven Davis in my squad.”

Davis did start his second spell at Ibrox with an assist in a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock back in January, but since then, he has not made the impact that many would have hoped.

The Northern Irish international had started just two games for the Saints during the first half of the campaign so it was understandable that he would need time to recapture his form and match fitness.

Davis has begun to do just that in recent weeks. He was man of the match in the 3-0 win over Hearts at the beginning of this month and was equally as impressive during the 3-0 victory at Motherwell last time out.
