Gerrard Responds To Rumours That Rangers Will Look To Secure Deals For Two Defenders

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has rejected claims that the club are interested in Everton defender Lewis Gibson and Hearts fullback Aaron Hickey.

Gibson is nearing the end of his contract at Goodison Park and the Gers were believed to be keeping tabs on his situation. Hickey, meanwhile, was reportedly a target for the Light Blues’ new Director of Football Ross Wilson, but Gerrard has dismissed both stories as paper talk:

“Lewis Gibson isn’t on the radar, it’s just speculation. The kid at Hearts, Hickey, is the same. Craig Levein has had to answer that question but he shouldn’t because there’s nothing in it.”

Considering that Rangers are well-stocked at centre-half, it isn’t surprising that Gibson isn’t a primary target. However, with the lack of cover at left-back, the interest in Hickey certainly did look more plausible.

In any case, with Wilson only having been officially appointed by the club last week, it will take some time for him to put together a list of targets, and fans may want to take any rumours about transfers with a pinch of salt for the time being.
