Gerrard Responds To Reports That Rangers Are Closing In On TWO Transfers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has refused to be drawn on speculation that the Scottish club are looking to sign Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh on pre-contract agreements.

Both players will be available on free transfers when their current deals expire in the summer, and the Gers are allowed to hold talks with them this month, but Gerrard didn’t want to give anything away:

“What I won’t do is be disrespectful to any individual player or their clubs. They are two players that belong to a different club. What I will say is we are making inroads, we are actively trying to improve the group. Not just now but also for the future as well, so yes we are actively trying to add to the group come the summer. But I won’t be mentioning any names or elaborating on that.”

While a deal for Ofoborh could turn out to be pretty straightforward, securing Simpson has been made slightly more complicated by the involvement of Cardiff City, with the Bluebirds having recently had a £750,000 bid accepted for the player.

The centre-back can, therefore, hold talks about moving to the Welsh club this month. The Light Blues may have to rely on Gerrard’s persuasion skills to convince the 24-year-old to stay at the Vitality Stadium for the rest of the season before moving north of the border.
