Gerrard Provides Concerning Fitness Update Ahead Of Rangers’ Cup Final Clash Against Celtic

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that left-back Borna Barisic is a doubt for Sunday’s Betfred Cup final against Celtic after picking up a knock.

The Croatian international was surprisingly omitted from the starting line up that played against Aberdeen last night, and asked about the fullback’s availability, Gerrard replied:

“Barisic is a doubt for Sunday. He was limping about yesterday. He has been receiving treatment today but at the moment he is a doubt. He’s had three or four kicks on his foot and has bone bruising there.”

Fans will be hoping that Barisic is fit and ready for the Old Firm clash at the weekend. The Gers’ defence lacked balance against Aberdeen with the right-footed Jon Flanagan playing at left-back.

They missed the width that Barisic can provide as well as his excellent deliveries into the box. The 27-year-old has been superb form in recent months, having firmly established himself as a key first-team player after the first international break in September.

The defender has an impressive 10 assists to his name this campaign, and he will be a big miss if he isn’t in the eleven that walks out at Hampden Park this weekend.
