Gerrard Offers Two Reasons Why Rangers Talisman Could Be Dropped For Ross County Clash

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed he will speak to captain James Tavernier ahead of tomorrow’s game against Ross County.

The right-back has been under massive scrutiny in recent weeks, not only due to his poor performances since the turn of the year but because of the comments he made in the matchday programme ahead of the defeat to Hamilton which questioned the team’s resilience.

Gerrard was asked about Tavernier at his pre-match press conference yesterday. The fullback is currently a doubt for the game at Victoria Park due to a knock he picked up in the loss last weekend, and the Light Blues boss said that a decision to drop him could be made either due to fitness issues or if he isn’t mentally up for the game:

“In this situation, I will speak to James. I have that daily contact and dialogue with him anyway and I will see where he is at. The injury might make the decision for me if he is not available, but we’ll go from there.”

“If I feel anyone is not in the right place, whether it be to do with performances or from a mental point of view, I’ll do what I think is best in that situation.”

It is believed that Matt Polster could be in line to replace Tavernier with the American international having returned to full training this week.
