Gerrard Names The Two Players He Expects To Leave Within The Next “Couple Of Days”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that midfielders Greg Docherty and Jamie Murphy are expected to leave Ibrox imminently, with both reportedly set for loan moves to English League One clubs.

Docherty is said to be close to finalising a temporary move to Sunderland, while Murphy is expected to join Burton Albion for the remainder of the season. Asked about the pair at his press conference today, Gerrard revealed that both deals are nearly over the line:

“There’s a real serious club in for Docherty and negotiations are ongoing. It’s getting closer and closer and I predict something could happen in the coming days…”

“With Jamie, it’s a similar situation to Docherty’s, but I predict that they will go out, hopefully in a couple of days so they can get playing as quick as possible.”

Docherty has not featured for the Bears since August, and despite making an impression during Europa League qualifying, with three assists from just four games, he has failed to make a single league appearance this campaign.

Murphy, meanwhile, has struggled to find game time following a return from a serious knee injury. The 30-year-old has had just two brief cameos in league matches, playing 30 minutes against Hamilton in a 5-0 win back in October, with another 30-minute appearance in the 4-0 victory over Ross County coming at the end of the same month.
