Gerrard Makes Frank Admission About Rangers Ace’s Future Amid Possible Switch To Middle East

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is still not 100% certain that Alfredo Morelos will be staying at Ibrox despite the domestic transfer window being closed.

Speaking ahead of the Old Firm derby yesterday, Gerrard said that while it appears likely that the Colombian international will remain at the club, he is still mindful that clubs in certain parts of the world can still make transfers:

“He’s a fantastic player and he’s still in the door. So we will use that to our benefit. How long he is going to be here for I don’t know. There are still certain windows open so I don’t think we are totally thRough the woods just yet.”

Gerrard is likely referring to Al-Duhail’s interest in Morelos. The Qatari club were first linked with a move for the 24-year-old back in June and another report surfaced earlier this month that suggested a transfer to the Middle East could still happen.

It must be said that a switch to Al-Duhail would be motivated by money rather than ambition. Considering Morelos is just starting to establish himself on the international scene with Colombia, moving to Qatar doesn’t seem like a good career choice as it would likely damage his chances of being called up for future squads.
