Gerrard Calls On Rangers Board To Make Decision On Deal For 8M Rated Midfielder

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard wants the club’s board to tie down midfielder Glen Kamara to a new contract as soon as possible following his recent performances for the Light Blues.

The Finnish international was superb in the 2-0 win against Old Firm rivals Celtic last weekend, and Gerrard says he would love to see the 24-year-old sign an extension to his current deal:

“If it was my decision the answer would be yes [to getting a new contract]. I’ve made my feelings known to Ross (Wilson, sporting director) and the board on that situation. Glen has been fantastic for me since day one. He’s grown and he’s evolved. He’s improved and he’s listened.”

Last year, Rangers reportedly slapped an £8m price tag on Kamara’s head, following interest from a number of clubs, including Leeds, Brighton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. Since then, the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Sheffield United have also taken a look at the player.

That asking price may well have increased following his recent form and, while his contract at Ibrox does run until 2023, Gerrard is keen to reward the player for his excellent performances, as well as attempting to ward off any potential bids for the Finnish star in January.
