Gary McAllister Speaks Out On Gerrard’s Future Amid Premier League Interest

Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister says Steven Gerrard will be taking any speculation about his future in his stride.

The 41-year-old has been heavily linked with the job at Newcastle over the last week, but after being touted for numerous other jobs in the past, McAllister claims it is simply the result of the success that Gerrard has brought to Ibrox:

“The thing is, since we have been here there has been speculation and links to several clubs. That’s part and parcel of being a high profile manager. A high profile manager that’s done pretty well here. Winning the league last season was decent.”

Reports in recent days have suggested that Gerrard may not be among the favourites for the role at the Magpies anyway, with the likes of former Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard, Brighton boss Graham Potter and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers moving to the top of the list.

Gerrard is unlikely to be phased by all the talk. A return to Liverpool has been repeatedly suggested ever since he took the job with the Light Blues three years ago. Supporters will be hoping that the Scouser stays in Glasgow in order to complete the job he has started.
