Fry Reveals Rangers Midfielder Is Set For English Championship Switch

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty looks set for a move to an English Championship club in the January transfer window. League One side Peterborough were also pursuing the 23-year-old but had a loan bid knocked back by the player.

The Posh’s Director of Football Barry Fry revealed that they had been given permission to speak with Docherty, about a loan switch with an option to buy, but the English club were told that the player had opted to move to a Championship team instead:

“Rangers boss Steven Gerrard thought we would be an ideal move for Greg, but the player says he has a Championship club to go to.”

Which team it is, we still don’t know but it looks almost certain now that Docherty has played his last game for the Gers, as long his initial loan deal is successful.

The former Hamilton Academical midfielder has made five appearances for the Light Blues this season, but his last game came against East Fife in the League Cup back in August.

Docherty has appeared for the development squad in the Challenge Cup since then, but it is apparent he is not part of manager Steven Gerrard’s first-team plans.
