Four Rangers Players Who Could Be Set To Leave Ibrox This Month

The Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard stated last week that he expects most of the club’s transfer activity during the January transfer window will be related to sales rather than signings.

The Bears do have a pretty big squad, which could do with a bit of trimming, and Gerrard says that supporters should anticipate some players leaving before the end of the month:

“I predict there’ll be a few more going the opposite way than actually coming in the door. I don’t think we need a number of incomings, but we might need maybe one or two to try and freshen it up.”

So which players are the likeliest to depart Ibrox? Press the next page as we name four who could leave the club over the coming weeks.

Greg Stewart

The 30-year-old has made very few appearances for the Gers this season, playing just four games in all competitions. The fact that he has only made the matchday squad on seven occasions in the league suggests he is deemed surplus to requirements by Gerrard.

Reports have claimed that the Light Blues would be looking for a six-figure sum for Stewart this January, but it is more likely that he’ll leave on loan.

Jordan Jones

The Northern Ireland international had crept back into Gerrard’s first-team plans before he was banned by the SFA for seven matches following a breach of regulations related to the virus.

With Jones walking on thin ice even before his suspension, it is now expected that he will be sold this month. There are likely to be a number of English Championship clubs after him.

Glenn Middleton

It is believed that Gerrard still rates the young winger despite shipping him out on loan over the last couple of seasons. This campaign, he has made just one appearance, coming on as a substitute to play left-back against Falkirk in the Betfred Cup.

Another temporary departure is likely with reports suggesting that there are two Dutch sides, NAC Breda and ADO Den Haag, looking to take him on loan before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

George Edmundson

The former Oldham defender’s future is the least certain as it is not known whether Gerrard will decide to reintegrate the 23-year-old into his squad following his seven-game ban.

Unlike Jones, there had been no indication that Edmundson was surplus to requirements prior to his suspension. However, if Nikola Katic does recover quicker than expected from a knee injury, the Croatian’s return would allow for a centre-back to be sold without impacting the options available to the manager.
