Four Players Steven Gerrard May Look To Sell As Rangers Plan Squad Overhaul

The Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has spoken out over the last week to confirm that the Scottish club are moving forward with their plans in the transfer market.

It was thought the £3m outlay on Ianis Hagi and the financial impact of the global health crisis may have led to the Gers keeping their chequebook closed, but Gerrard says the club are pushing ahead:

“We are still chasing targets behind the scenes. We have numerous targets we want to bring in to help strengthen us next season. It’s exciting times to be at Rangers.”

With that being the case, it is more than likely that there will also be players leaving this summer as Gerrard makes room in the squad for new recruits.

So who could leave Rangers in the coming weeks as the Light Blues plan another squad overhaul? Press the next page to find out which four players could leave.

James Tavernier

A controversial pick but the Rangers captain’s form has declined this season, with many supporters frustrated with his numerous defensive lapses.

At 28 years of age, he still has a good sell on value and, with a number of English clubs including Aston Villa and Newcastle, said to be interested in the right-back, could this be the right time to offload him?

Brandon Barker

Signing the winger on a free transfer from Manchester City was a big surprise last summer, considering he had not pulled up any trees during his last loan spell at Preston.

It is believed that Gerrard’s backroom staff do rate Barker’s ability, but he has flattered to deceive when given chances, scoring just one goal in 12 appearances. His days at Ibrox appear to be numbered.

Nikola Katic

Probably the least likely to leave with the Croatian still having room to develop at 23 years of age but Gerrard is clearly unhappy with the player’s performances after his display against St Johnstone back in February.

Katic has not started a game since then, being an unused substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Hamilton, while he was only given a brief cameo in the victory against Ross County in the last league fixture before the season was curtailed.

Jordan Jones

The Northern Ireland international got off to a good start following his arrival from Kilmarnock but his attitude has clearly not impressed Gerrard.

A knee injury he sustained after a stupid challenge that got him sent off in the Old Firm derby back in September left him in the Gers’ boss bad books. He has barely featured since returning to fitness, making just three substitute appearances in the league.
