Five Players Rangers Could Target In The January Transfer Window

The Ibrox Stadium.

With Rangers flying high at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, there seems to be very little need to strengthen the club’s squad in the January transfer window.

However, at the club’s AGM last week, manager Steven Gerrard insisted that the Bears will remain active in trying to bring in players to the club.

There have been a number of names mentioned as possible targets for January and, while there’s no guarantee anyone will be brought in, we thought it would be good to point out some possible signings.

Press the next page as we look at five players that Rangers may go after next month.

Bright Osayi-Samuel (QPR)

The Nigerian has been linked with both Old Firm clubs in recent months and he could be available relatively cheaply in January with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Osayi-Samuel could also be snapped up on a pre-contract agreement if director of football Ross Wilson and Gerrard decide that they could do without the right-winger until the summer.

John Lundstram (Sheffield United)

The Sheffield United midfielder is in a similar situation to Osayi-Samuel as he will be available on the cheap next month with the player running down his contract.

There is more competition for Lundstram, though, with the likes of West Ham and Brighton also thought to be weighing up moves for the 26-year-old.

Marijan Cabraja (Gorica)

Not many had heard of the Croatian left-back before last week when he revealed that Rangers were tracking him as they eye a potential replacement for Borna Barisic.

Gerrard has said that he won’t sanction any key players leaving in January so, if Barisic stays until the summer, a move for Cabraja may only take place at the end of the season. He may not be available then though, as it is believed that the Gorica fullback may receive offers from Russia and the USA next month.

Kenny McLean (Norwich City)

The Scotland international is most likely the main alternative if the Gers lose out on Lundstram. It is believed an approach was made for the Norwich City player last summer but the Canaries were not willing to let him leave.

McLean is said to be still on Rangers’ radar but the fact that he remains a regular starter for the English Championship club would make any deal difficult to broker.

Jesse Lingard (Manchester United)

This is more of a remote possibility, considering that the Light Blues already have a number of options in forward areas, but the United star could do a job for Gerrard on the right-wing.

Lingard is thought to be keen on leaving Old Trafford on loan if he isn’t afforded more first-team opportunities at the Red Devils so, if he is available, it could be something that Wilson and Gerrard look into.
